The economic review for January concentrates on the following topics:

  • Share prices have rocketed and the price of crude oil is on the rise. The economy will continue growing in many regions for some time, but this could change in the next three to six months.
  • We remain convinced that for the first time the ECB will increase the interest rate on deposits by 10 basis points in the second quarter of 2019. Since this should boost wage growth and core inflation, the interest rates are likely to be increased once again by 10 basis points after another six months, i.e. in the fourth quarter of 2019.
  • The unemployment rate in Estonia has remained stable, fluctuating around 6% since 2015. However, in October it dropped to 5.1%, which is an all-time low for the post-crisis period.
